Description of the model :
The Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera, produced from January to September of 1989, saw a total of 2,104 units built (although some sources state 2,056), including 1933 Turbo-bodied formats with 129 right-hand drives and 171 conventional narrow-bodied trims, of which ten were right-hand drives. Following its success, a 964-based Speedster was introduced in 1992. The Carrera 3.2, praised for its evolution from the iconic air-cooled engine design, marked a significant step forward from the SC model it replaced. It was available in coupé, Targa, and Cabriolet variants, introducing the Carrera script back to the 911 since 1977. The model featured a 3,164cc flat-six engine, boasting 231bhp and a top speed of 152mph, making it the most powerful naturally aspirated 911 at the time. The Carrera 3.2 was the first production 911 with an ECU for ignition and fuel systems, enhancing performance to rival the original 930. Despite power reduction in US models due to emissions regulations, the Carrera 3.2's popularity soared, especially in 1986, its most successful sales year. Significant improvements in 1987 included the introduction of the Getrag G50 five-speed gearbox and a hydraulic clutch. The model underwent continuous evolution, including aesthetic tweaks and technological upgrades, culminating in the introduction of the Speedster variant in 1989, which paid homage to the 1950s 356 Speedsters. The Carrera 3.2 remains a testament to Porsche's engineering excellence and a sought-after classic.
