Model description

The Jaguar XK140 was made between 1954 and 1957 and was the successor to the incredibly successful Jaguar XK120. It was produced until 1957, when it was replaced by the Jaguar XK150.

The XK140 was introduced at the end of 1954 and was sold from 1955. Technically, it looked very much like its predecessor, the XK120. The biggest difference between the 2 cars was the comfort and ease of driving. Where its predecessor was mainly focused on speed, the XK140 was mainly focused on comfort. This made the car more suitable for the American market.

The engine in the XK140 sits 10cm further forward, which gave more legroom in the interior of the car and also allowed taller people to sit in the car. The finish of the interior also became more luxurious.

To improve the driving convenience even more, the suspension was improved and more modern shock absorbers were introduced in the car.

In terms of engine, not much changed: the Jaguar continued to use the same engine as in the XK120, only now the power had increased to 193 HP for the standard version and 213 HP for the faster version.

The XK140 was available in 3 body styles: The roadster (or Open Two-Seater, OTS), the convertible (Drop Head Coupé, DHC) and the coupé (Fixed Head Coupé). The big difference between the OTS and the DHC was that with the roadster the convertible top folded away behind the seats and that with the DHC the hood remained visible in a folded down position. The DHC was also a bit more luxurious than the OTS and it was not possible to remove the windscreen (which was the case with the roadster)
