Model description:

The Ferrari 512 TR is an evolution of the globally coveted and similarly praised Ferrari Testarossa, which had indeed become a film star due to its leading role in the TV series Miami Vice. Despite numerous other accolades, the golden goose was clearly not depleted; on the contrary, the public demanded an encore, and they got it in 1991 when the Testarossa was replaced by the 512 TR.

Although its predecessor, the Testarossa, seemed to already flirt with the boundaries of perfection, the 512 TR went a step further. The drivetrain remained almost identical to before, which is also revealed by the traditional Ferrari model name: 'TR' stands for Testa Rossa, referring to the iconic red cylinder head, '5' for five liters of engine displacement, '12' for twelve cylinders mounted horizontally, flat, in a boxer configuration in the middle of the vehicle, just like in the Testarossa. However, the 512 TR, thanks to a higher compression ratio, managed to gain nearly forty more horsepower, which resulted in a more torque-rich assembly at a higher engine speed. The manual gearbox, which guarantees a boost of happiness hormones upon operation, is mounted lower in the assembly and is overall improved. The gearbox had sometimes been a point of contention with the Testarossa. Clearly, Ferrari aims to even elevate the best to excel at a higher level, 'the sky is the limit', they know their stuff.

The 512 TR is the quintessential Testarossa, with a design that is somewhat more modern than the Testarossa and breathes the '90s. The prancing horse is now proudly placed at the back center, the pop-up headlights are retained, the front bumper is also painted to modern standards, and there is a move away from anything previously made of plastic. The wheels are also reworked, and inside, the sports seats are primarily built more ergonomically.

The Ferrari 512 TR was built until 1994 and marked a first bold step towards a modern Ferrari era. After 2,261 units were produced, the torch was passed to the 512M, which, in turn, provided more modern innovations. The array of Ferrari classics is now rightly joined by the 512 TR, and its value is firmly on the rise.
