Lotus Europa Twin Cam – Ford 1.6 Twin Cam

The Lotus Europa Twin Cam is a pure driver-focused sports car, built according to the principles of Colin Chapman: light, low and direct.
This example is equipped with the desirable 1.6-liter Ford Twin Cam engine, fed by two twin Weber DCOE carburetors – a combination that guarantees lively throttle response, a characterful engine sound and strong performance in a lightweight package.
The engine is mated to a manual Renault gearbox, as Lotus deliberately chose at the time for its mid-engine configuration.
This drivetrain makes optimal use of the car’s low weight and excellent balance, and is known for its efficiency and reliability.
Thanks to the central engine position, rear-wheel drive and the fiberglass body, the Europa offers razor-sharp handling and a direct driving experience that still impresses today.
The chassis is communicative and lively, with steering feel that is unmatched in this class.
The minimalist interior is fully driver-oriented and breathes functional simplicity. Everything about this car is designed to serve one purpose: driving pleasure.
The Lotus Europa Twin Cam remains an icon among enthusiasts of pure, analogue sports cars.

This 1974 Lotus Europa, chassis number 4426R, is in generally good condition following an older professional restoration.
The car presents nicely, though some visible signs of use are present.
The body was repainted in a non-original color and shows scratches and imperfect panel alignment, but still looks neat.
The paint is used but remains clean.

The underside and engine bay are in very neat condition, with traces of grease underneath – a typical sign of use following restoration.
The interior has been nicely restored and matches the overall quality impression of the exterior.
Brakes and suspension work well, although there is slight play at the front right.
Electrical functions such as horn, heater and wipers are in working order, although the temperature gauge does not work.
The original windshield has some visible scratches, and the battery is still usable but should be replaced in time.
The tires have sufficient tread but are aged.

Overall, this is an honest and attractive example of the Lotus Europa, with a properly restored foundation and a few areas that could be improved for optimal use and presentation.
