The Jaguar XK140 was only made from 1954 to 1957 being the successor to the iconic XK120. The XK140 didn't offer more power or strength; it was an optimized and modernized version of XK120 that had endeavoured perfection. Jaguar, true to tradition, it was stuffed with luxury. It exuded modest class and prestige.

Its predecessor, the XK120, already boasted a lot of Jaguar’s luxury. In addition to its prestigious and very British appearance, it featured a straight-six engine that provided impressive power and even achieved fame and victory at the famous Le Mans circuit in 1951. Three years after that triumph, Jaguar decided to update the look of their most successful car. They opted for more ergonomics and comfort by increasing interior space. The brakes and shock absorbers were improved as well. Aesthetically, the bumpers were refined, and turn signals were added. On the trunk lid, there is a badge commemorating Jaguar's victories at Le Mans in 1951 and 1953.

Like its predecessor, the XK140 was available as a roadster, as a convertible, and as a coupe, referred to as DHC (drophead coupe), FHC (fixed head coupe), and OTS (open two-seater) respectively. In addition to the body types, Jaguar also manufactured a sportier edition, the XK140 SE, which delivered 210 horsepower instead of the standard 190 horsepower. The XK140 was also the first Jaguar ever to be available with an automatic transmission, starting in 1956.

Jaguar XK140 SE

The Jaguar XK140 SE, or XK140 MC for the United States, was produced alongside the regular XK140 and served as the sportier variant. It featured the cylinder head from the glorious C-Type, providing 10% more power than a normal XK140. The only aesthetic difference from the XK140 was that the SE model had two exhaust pipes, while the XK140 had only one.

Just under 9,000 XK140’s were built. Its predecessor has already shown to be a great investment, the XK140 is well on its way. Vintage Jaguars are undoubtedly profitable investments and true luxury cars.
