The Ford Mustang, a household name since the first one hit the market in 1964. As a prototype, the Mustang existed as a 2-seater sports car as early as 1962, where it did its laps with a V4 mid-engine from Germany as a warm-up at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix. However, this Mustang I was not suitable for production. The car looked too futuristic and Ford management wanted to make a car for four people. This would be much more eagerly sought after by young families. Ford had taken the Corvette as a comparison and knew it had to get a better score and thus produce a more versatile car. Stylist John Najjar was a fan of the fighter plane the P-51 Mustang, hence the name. The first one rolled off the production line on 17 April 1964 and very many of them have been sold since then. What made the car so successful was its sporty looks and low base price. The 1964 model was sold as the "1965 Mustang" from the start. Nowadays, these models built from 1964 to 1967 are very popular among Mustang enthusiasts as these are the "first generation Mustangs".
