Description of the model W112; 300 Se convertible 708 cars produced (of which 616 LHD)
At the end of World War II, Mercedes quickly resumed its activities by releasing legendary models, such as the monstrous and expensive 300, and especially the 190 SL and the extraordinary 300 SL, with gullwing doors. But these vehicles were based on archaic chassis, called pontons, which predate the war. In 1956 there were new versions, with new specifications, a longer wheelbase to increase the interior space, larger glass surfaces and new crumple zones (innovation to reduce the number of traffic victims). As for the design of the bodywork, the standards were both European and American. That's why they wore proud rear fins (‘Heckflosse’) and streamlined headlights. The 300 Se convertible is one of the top models of the series. Accordingly, the new more exclusive models - assigned to the 112 series and equipped with a whole range of special technical features. Standard specifications include a three-liter alloy engine, a four-speed automatic transmission, power steering, air suspension and a dual-circuit braking system with disc brakes on the front and rear wheels.
