Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda California Automatic

Discover the pure elegance of the 280 SL Pagoda, presented in a stunning deep red paint combined with a beautiful cream interior. This iconic classic from the 1960s and 1970s embodies everything that makes Mercedes-Benz legendary: craftsmanship, reliability, style, and timeless driving pleasure.

The distinctive Pagoda roofline gives this model a unique appearance, enhanced by a combination of chrome accents and classic wheels. The hardtop makes the vehicle suitable for all seasons, while a soft top was added later for those seeking the full convertible experience. This model thus combines the best of both worlds: a convertible with a small rear bench.

This 280 SL began its life as an original California version – a rare model without a soft top but with a practical small rear bench and a standard hardtop. However, on this particular example, a folding soft top was added later, which is exceptional for a California model.

Under the hood lies a powerful 2.8-liter inline-six engine, delivering 170 hp – considered exceptional at the time. This engine is famous for its technical innovations, including mechanical fuel injection. By replacing traditional carburetors, this injection technology ensures better fuel management, resulting in smoother engine performance, optimized fuel consumption, and improved overall power. The engine is paired with an automatic transmission, guaranteeing optimal driving comfort.

  • Power: 170 hp

  • Technical innovation: Bosch mechanical fuel injection for optimal performance and reliability

  • Smooth and responsive: Ideal for city driving and long tours

Although the presentation is good and the car drives well, we classify it as an older restoration requiring some minor updates. Minor repairs or bodywork are expected underneath the car, and the paintwork could use some refreshing. However, the vehicle drives very well and comes with French documentation.
