The Mathis 5 hp type "TY" is a more economical version than the "PY" which it uses the chassis. The first units released in August 1931 were fitted with a 905 cc "TY" type engine developing 15 hp at 3600 rpm. From 1934, a new type “TYN” engine is used. Its displacement increased to 935 cm³ gives it a real power of 18 hp at 3600 rpm. The 5 hp type "TY" will be manufactured until the end of 1934. The last units rolled off the assembly lines with a "Matford" chassis plate.
The “TY” type engine is a lateral 4 cylinder. The bore is 60 mm and the stroke is 80 mm, resulting in a displacement of 905 cm³. It is equipped with an oil pump and the cooling is of the "thermosiphon" type. Ignition is by coil battery. The clutch is a dry working single disc. The gearbox is three-speed and the rear axle is of the “hypoid” type.
